Why Troop 14 ?

No Pressure

There are many different aspects of our troop that set us apart from the other troops in our area. We are a very laid back troop. At meetings, scouts are not required to wear the scout pants. After the beginning of our meetings, we aren't required to wear the kakhi shirts. We have a voracious appetite for the scouting ideals, such as the knowledge a scout acquires, or the ability to live up to the standards that are assumed for scouts. Many of our troop members get to Eagle. However, many of the people in our troop get there at a leisurely pace. Most will attain Eagle when they're seventeen, or in one case, eighteen. We have only had one 15 year-old eagle scout lately.

Having Fun

In Troop 14, the focus is more on having fun along the way then achieving the rank in record time, although we can easily support anyone willing to take on that task. We play a game almost ever meeting. We go on a variety of outings including backpacking trips in the foothills, ski trips in the moutains, car camping trips by the beach, and even a high-adventure camp on the rivers of Minnesota.

Strong Group Unity

In Troop 14, we also pride ourselves in the unity that we have in our troop. We can boast that all of our troop members get along, even with the bridging of ages between the 10 year old scouts, 16 year old life scouts, and 19 year old alumni coming by to visit us. We have such strong bonds formed between the scouts, we have had a scout fly in from Maryland to go to our weekend outings. We are based in Palo Alto, but we've had scouts in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Pacifica, and Newark.

Scouts are in charge

While all the scouts get along well with their older scoutmasters and assistants, our troop has placed a great amount of work on making sure the scouts learn the important aspects of scouting and leadership. As a scout progresses through the troop, he will observe sterling examples of leadership, and scouts who are still learning how to open a meeting. Our troop is much more Scout led than most Boy Scout troops. This website was designed and created by a Scout. Scouts decide what outings we want to go on. Adults are only required to do the bare minimum of work.

We pride ourselves in that we are unique. Our troop has had a huge impact on most of the scouts who are in it. We are an ever changing group who accepts people no matter what their attitude is, however, as always, you only get out, what you put in.
